Episodes with U.S. Censorship

With the TV-Y7-FV rating in the United States, Cartoon Network has censored or edited some episodes containing material that could least likely give it a TV-PG rating, despite Adventure Time, Regular Show, Uncle Grandpa, Steven Universe, Clarence, and Teen Titans Go! displaying similar material on the channel.

Original trailer

• The part where Anton screams after Darwin falls on the dumpster was cut.

Opening theme

• The opening theme song is shortened length from 15 seconds to five seconds without the 1992 Cartoon Network logo. The reason why they did this was to fit in more advertising in the show, however, it can be seen in reruns of "The Quest," "The Procrastinators," "The Return," and "The Faith."

Season 1

"The Quest"

• The title card was removed from television airings for unknown reasons, but it can be seen when the full opening theme is shown at times.

"The Goons"

• The title card was removed from television airings for unknown reasons.

Season 2

"The Skull"

• The scene where the boys use shock therapy to stop Clayton from lying was cut. As a result, about a minute and a half of the episode was mostly cut out.

"The Storm"

• Gumball says "coward" instead of "bimbo" when berating Carmen.

"The Finale"

• At the end, instead of directly cutting to black and then going to credits, the episode fades out instead with no credits. As a result, the "reset device" joke is ruined.

Season 3

"The Saint"

• In the U.S. broadcast, when Carmen is flipping through the photos of Darwin disguised as Alan, there is a noticeable cut between showing the pictures of Banana Joe and the toilet. Pausing at the right time shows there is also a picture of Leslie, which was cut out but not removed from every frame. This edit was also in the digital version of the episode sold on sites like iTunes and Amazon.com.

Season 4

"The Crew"

• The ending scene where the Donut Cop tasers Marvin is cut from television airings and Max. Despite this, it can be viewed on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu.

"The Parasite"

• The title card was removed from Video On Demand services and television airings for unknown reasons.

Season 5

"The Uncle"

• Part of the scene where Gumball runs through town acting like Mario is cut short. The full scene can be viewed on Video On Demand services and online.

"The Nuisance"

• In later reruns of the episode, the mentioning of "bath salts" has been replaced with "soap suds."

Season 6

"The Anybody"

• The title card was removed from television airings for unknown reasons.

"Christmas"

• Nicole telling the kids and Santa that Santa doesn't exist as well as the kids' "innocence" leaving their bodies was cut in recent airings. This scene is kept on Netflix UK however.
  • Her story is also cut short, ending at the line "But he never came" cutting out "and that's how I learned the terrible truth. Santa Claus doesn't exi—".
  • Also, the scene when Nicole says many things weren't real whilst searching through the park for Gumball, Darwin and Anais was cut in recent airings. This scene is kept on Netflix UK however.

"The Procrastinators"

• The scene where Gumball throws up the candy bar was cut. This scene is kept on Netflix UK however.

"The Society"

• The scene where Gumball scratches Principal Brown's finger with his index finger was cut. This scene is kept on Netflix UK homever.

• Gumball choking on a music player was cut. This scene is kept on Netflix UK however.
• When the live-action piranha came on screen, the music fades in. This scene is kept on Netflix UK however.

"The Sale"

• The scene where Gumball spits and tries to swallow was cut.

"The Parking"

• The scene where Nicole painted the car at the disabled citizens zone with lipstick was slightly shortened.

"The Signal"

• The scene where Gumball and Darwin enter precipitately at the parking lot was cut until when the people depart. Curiously, the audio shows perfectly that this scene is cut.

"The Awkwardness"

• The scene where Gumball maintains his hand in his eye while he shouts with a slow voice was cut until Hot Dog Guy asks him what happened to him.

"The Slap"

• In the line "Maybe it's the name. What about "digit-docking?'" only "Maybe it's the name" is retained and then cuts to Darwin's line, which makes the scenes confusing.
• Gumball's line "Wait, if it is the last thing he does today it would probably be at bedtime, which is kinda weird. Rephrase!" and the rewind that follows is cut.

Season 5

"The Loophole"

• The first time Bobert headbutts Gumball is cut. His first headbutt sends Gumball a year back.
• Also the text when he's sent a year back is changed to a different font.

"The Copycats"

• The scene where Richard is seen smiling in the bathtub was cut.

"The Outside"

• The scene where Frankie has the spork stuck in his nose is cut; when Darwin runs away, the scene fades to black to Richard's line about how mean are they to his father.

"The Ollie"

• The poor boy saying "Criminy!" is cut due to mild blasphemous language.

"The Grades"

• During the scene where the kids cause havoc, the moments where the Frog Kid puts some food and after some toilet paper in Gumball's mouth and nose and presses so hard that it comes from his ears. There is an audio inconsistency because when they stop shouting and stare at Gumball, the shouting suddenly resumes.
• The scene where Gumball pulls on a string and one of his organs flies out is cut.

"The Sorcerer"

• The scene where Gumball cracks his neck is cut.

"The Menu"

• Richard saying "One secret [Static] burger to go, you little— [Static]" was cut due to implied language.
• The scene where Larry spits on Richard's burger off-screen was cut.
• The scene where Richard tries to eat Burgie's fingers is removed and cut to Richard trying to chew his finger.

"The Uncle"

• The scene where Gumball talks to The Rotten Cupcake the screen is flipped.
• The part where the Rotten Cupcake kicks Gumball in the groin is cut.
• After the Rotten Cupcake puts the trashcan over Gumball's head, he only hits him three times.
• The part where the Rotten Cupcake staggers and begs for help after the weights fall on his face is cut.
• The part where Gumball's eyeballs pop out from withholding his laughter is cut.
• The scene where Ocho abducts Gumball is completely absent from the episode. As a result, half of the episode was mostly cut out.

• The moment where Gumball eats a spoon of dirt was cut.
  • This scene can be seen in British airings of the The Gumball Chronicles: Vote Gumball…and Leslie? special.

"The Buddy"

• Anais' line, "Our souls will fuse like polyester pants with leg skin after an accident with boiling water! But, like, in a good way," was cut.

• Part of Gumball beating up Jeff was cut.

• Miss. Simian saying "Pull yourself together, Nigel! You sound like a winded Chinese opera singer. What's wrong?" was cut in reruns.

Episodes with Australian and New Zealand censorship

Season 1

This season is kept on Netflix New Zealand however.

"The Pressure"

• Tobias' mention of a blood pact was changed to just "a pact."
• All scenes of characters jumping out windows were cut.
• The girls' quick reaction shot before Darwin and Gumball kiss was cut.
• Gumball and Darwin commenting on how great their kiss was is cut.

"The Painting"

• The scene where Mr. Small lights the painting on fire is cut.

"The Mystery"

• Rocky putting chemicals on his hand was cut, causing confusion.

"The Sock"

• Unlike CN Asia, instead of chopping the 'jumping out the window' scenes altogether, only the actual jumping out of the window was cut, leaving the aftermath with Principal Brown and Miss Simian dragging their bodies intact. It also cuts Rocky jumping out the window very poorly, showing him beginning to jump before cutting to the next scene.
• The interrupted kiss between Miss Simian and Principal Brown was also cut, where it shows Principal Brown finishing his 'food, water and love' statement before cutting straight to Gumball asking if he and Darwin were asked to Principal Brown's office for a reason.

"The Genius"

• After failing to pronounce "library," Gumball calling it "a place where nerds hang out" was cut.

"The Mustache"

• Gumball's butt transformation was cut.
• Richard examining himself in the mirror (and trying to get his man-boobs to stick up) was cut.

"The Party"

• Principal Brown and Miss Simian kissing each other was cut. It shows the door beginning to open before cutting straight to their reactions.

"The Date"

• Richard withdrawing money, only to sneeze and blow his nose on it, then throw it away, was removed. Because of this, he only withdraws money once.
• Gumball falling out of the window when Mr. Cuddles attacked him was cut.

"The Poltergeist"

• When Gumball and Darwin use the Electro Fat on Mr. Robinson, it shows the first few seconds when they turn it on and the small effect. They begin to turn it up, before it cuts to the Watterson's house having the blackout, cutting out the electrocution process altogether.
• In Darwin's flashback of the last time they saw Mr. Robinson smile, it shows up to when Mr. Robinson begins to chuckle and back to the present, cutting out when Mr. Robinson laughs hysterically at the still-trapped Darwin.
• When Gumball and Darwin are caught using Mr. Robinson as a puppet, the line 'wanna make out?' is cut.

"The Car"

• A zoom-in was made in the scene where Richard proclaims, "Now, make me beautiful!" This was done to not show a close-up of Richard's breasts with the electrodes attached to him. This happened in the flashback as well.
• Richard bending out the dent in Mr. Robinson's car was cut.
• Richard showing off his newly acquired muscles was cut. This scene is not kept on Netflix New Zealand however.

"The Curse"

• The football post falling down on Gumball after he's kicked into it is cut due to violence.
• Gumball doing all the bad luck activities with Anais is cut, removing some context for later scenes.
  • This scene is zoomed in on Anais and Darwin, leaving out Gumball's dust, where Gumball's dialogue may also be cut too (despite the smoke from the dust clearly being seen).

"The Microwave"

• When Anais is about to be eaten by Kenneth, her saying what the..? is cut.
• The word 'gross' when Gumball describes Kenneth as a 'gross jar thing' is cut.

"The Meddler"

• When Gumball lifts up his skirt to Nicole, his butt is pixelated.
• The close-up of Gumball's butt at the tournament is cut.

Season 2

"The Phone"

• Gumball saying "noob" was muted slightly, to not include the first long 'o' sound. This scene is kept on Netflix New Zealand however.

"The Bet"

• Just like CN Asia, Miss Simian cuddling Gumball in the freezer and Bobert setting the former ablaze was cut. This scene is kept on Netflix New Zealand however.

"The Watch"

• The aftermath of Gumball and Darwin crashing through a glass pane is cut. This scene is kept on Netflix New Zealand however.

Season 3

"The Shell"

• The scene where Gumball enters the Banana's house and sees Banana Joe in his room watching a video of an orange being peeled and Gumball exiting, disgusted, was cut.

"The Downer"

• The scene where Gumball flushes Little Jimmy down the toilet was cut.

Episodes with Asian censorship

CN Asia often censors violence and suggestive material as well. So far, "The Spoon" was the most censored episode with nine censors. The Philippines' has less censorship than other countries, though.

Season 1

This season is kept on Netflix Singapore, Thailand & Hong Kong however.

"The Responsible"

• Instead of smashing the TV multiple times, Gumball and Darwin each hit it once.
• The television exploding off-screen was removed.

"The Third"

The following scene was skipped to the boys leaving the bathroom due to the unethical act of paying money for friendship.

• The script where Tobias says "Uh huh, for twenty bucks" and Gumball says "What?" is cut.
• Darwin first borrowing Gumball's ten bucks is cut.
• Tobias hearing that Darwin received ten bucks from Gumball and saying "Great!" was cut.
• There is a different one in the school gym scene: Tobias saying "twenty bucks" and Gumball saying "ten bucks" was cut.

"The Debt"

• Mr. Robinson saying "What the...?" is cut. There are two times he says "What the...?" in this episode.

"The Dress"

• Any instance of Gumball naked had the camera zoomed into his face. However, on three separate airings between 2011-2013, it could be seen in its uncut format.

"The Spoon"

• Whenever someone says the word "suckers," it was either muted or cut. There are eight "suckers" said in this episode.
• The very end where Nicole prepares to beat up Sal Left Thumb was removed.

"The Pressure"

• Like CN Australia, Tobias mentioning a blood pact was changed to just "pact."
• Tobias' blood pact attempt at school was cut.
• Any scenes where people jumped out windows were cut.
• The girls' brief reaction to Gumball and Darwin's accidental kiss was clipped out.
• Gumball and Darwin mentioning how great their kiss was was cut.

"The Painting"

• Mr. Small smashing the painting a few times and then burning it is cut to just hitting it once. However, the smoke is still seen, making it rather confusing that the portrait emitted smoke if the burning part was censored.

"The Laziest"

• Gumball saying "What the..?" when Larry is not present is cut.

"The Mystery"

• The scene where Rocky pours the corrosive chemicals onto his hand was cut, making the scene very confusing.

"The Prank"

• Richard walking up the stairs naked, showing his butt, is excised.
• The entire scene where the paramedics try to get the bucket off of Richard's head was cut, abruptly cutting from the bucket falling on Richard to him on the couch, angry.
• Gumball screaming "What the what!?" after nearly getting crushed was simply cut down to "What!?"

"The Gi"

• Once again, Nicole saying "What the...?" was cut when she found out the outfits are gone.
• After hitting many boards with his hand four times, Gumball hit many boards with his head once.
• The line that Gumball said "Hang on, weiner doesn't mean winner. It means sausage." was cut.

"The Refund"

• Gumball slaps himself in his face fourteen times only. In the uncensored version, he slaps himself in his face twenty-four times. This excludes when Larry is shown.

"The Party"

• Principal Brown and Miss Simian kissing each other was slightly cut.

"The Robot"

• Gumball saying "What the...?" while peeking in the window was cut.
• Tobias called Bobert "robo-dork." This was cut to just "robo."

"The Picnic"

• The subtitles for the creepy squirrels were not translated.
• Any scene with Gumball naked was zoomed into his face.

"The Sock"

• Again, the 'jumping out the window' scenes were missing, assuming the teachers just ran off.
• The kissing scene of Principal Brown and Miss Simian was slightly cut again.

"The Genius"

• Gumball's line "Ah, the place where all the nerds hang out" was cut.

"The Poltergeist"

• Every scene of Mr. Robinson getting severely shocked by the Electro Fat was cut.
• Mr. Robinson's continuous laugh at Darwin who is hurt by the automated sliding door was cut.
• When Mrs. Robinson caught the boys puppeting Mr. Robinson, the line "Wanna make out?" was cut.

"The Mustache"

• During Gumball's manly transformation, his growing butt was not shown.
• The scene where Richard examined himself in front of the mirror was cut.
• The breaking window scene was missing, assuming the laptop which Richard threw is just outside.
• Part of the song "Because We're Men" talking about having kids was removed.

"The Date"

• Gumball saying "What the...?" about Richard getting his clothes from the dump was cut.
• The scene where Richard used the money as a tissue was cut.
• While Gumball fights Mr. Cuddles, Gumball falling out of the window is cut.

"The Car"

• Mr. Robinson saying "What the...?" to Gumball and Darwin who finished trimming the lawn was cut.
• Richard getting shocked by the Electro Fat was cut.
• Again, the breaking window scene because of the Electro Fat being thrown there was cut.
• Richard trying to fix the dented car was also cut, likely because of his prominent nipples.
• The Robinsons hit the Wattersons' car only four times.
• The scene where Richard says Electro Fat being worth it was cut. This scene is not kept on Netflix Singapore, Thailand & Hong Kong however.

"The Curse"

• This one is also notable and the longest single censor cut. Anais' advice on Gumball's bad luck is wholly cut, making the scene extremely confusing.
• The scene where [Darwin explains the answer to Anais is slightly zoomed so that Gumball in dust is not shown.
• Gumball's line while covered in dust was cut.
• The football pole falling on Gumball from afar was cut.

"The Microwave"

• Anais saying "What the...?" when Kenneth is about to eat her was cut.

"The Meddler"

• When Gumball lifts up the skirt and shows his butt with Nicole, an edit was made with his butt pixelated.
• The close up of Gumball's butt during his cheerleading performance was cut.

"The Fight"

• Gumball saying "What the...?" after Anais said "Face to fist." was cut, making it sound as if he only says "WHAT?!"
• Darwin hitting Gumball while wearing the made-up armor multiple times was shortened to two times.

"The Knights"

Cartoon Network Philippines also censors this show as well with some exceptions and additions unlike Cartoon Network Asia. However, they can be seen uncensored when the show airs in Philippine's channel TV5 & Netflix.

• The part where Rocky purposely spills chemicals on his hand to prove to Gumball that that was the real reason why he acquired a bald spot on his hand was cut.

"The Sock"

• The scene where Miss Simian and Principal Brown were kissing was cut short.

"The Curse"

• The scene where Gumball is in dust after being subjected to a "test" by Anais is changed to Anais and Darwin discussing about how to cure Gumball's bad luck with the camera zoomed in instead of the audience being able to see Gumball on the floor with smoke emitting from his body.

• When Mr. Small was showing Gumball and Darwin the art of painting, the part where he sets the portrait on fire was cut. Though the part where he is seen coughing due to the smoke was not censored.

• The script where Tobias says "Uh huh, for twenty bucks" and Gumball says "What?" is cut.
• Darwin first borrowing Gumball's ten bucks is cut.
• Tobias hearing that Darwin received ten bucks from Gumball and saying "Great!" was cut.
• There is a different one in the school gym scene: Tobias saying "twenty bucks" and Gumball saying "ten bucks" was cut.

• Any instance of Gumball naked had the camera zoomed into his face. However, on three separate airings between 2011-2013, it could be seen in its uncut format.

• Whenever someone says the word "suckers," it was either muted or cut. There are eight "suckers" said in this episode.
• The very end where Nicole prepares to beat up Sal Left Thumb was removed.

• Like CN Australia, Tobias mentioning a blood pact was changed to just "pact."
• Tobias' blood pact attempt at school was cut.
• Any scenes where people jumped out windows were cut.
• The girls' brief reaction to Gumball and Darwin's accidental kiss was clipped out.

"The Painting"

• Mr. Small smashing the painting a few times and then burning it is cut to just hitting it once. However, the smoke is still seen, making it rather confusing that the portrait emitted smoke if the burning part was censored.

• Gumball saying "What the..?" when Larry is not present is cut.

"The Mystery"

• The scene where Rocky pours the corrosive chemicals onto his hand was cut, making the scene very confusing.

"The Prank"

• Richard walking up the stairs naked, showing his butt, is excised.
• The entire scene where the paramedics try to get the bucket off of Richard's head was cut, abruptly cutting from the bucket falling on Richard to him on the couch, angry.
• Gumball screaming "What the what!?" after nearly getting crushed was simply cut down to "What!?"

"The Gi"

• Once again, Nicole saying "What the...?" was cut when she found out the outfits are gone.
• After hitting many boards with his hand four times, Gumball hit many boards with his head once.
• The line that Gumball said "Hang on, weiner doesn't mean winner. It means sausage." was cut.

"The Refund"

• Gumball slaps himself in his face fourteen times only. In the uncensored version, he slaps himself in his face twenty-four times. This excludes when Larry is shown.

"The Party"

• Principal Brown and Miss Simian kissing each other was slightly cut.

"The Robot"

• Gumball saying "What the...?" while peeking in the window was cut.
• Tobias called Bobert "robo-dork." This was cut to just "robo."

"The Picnic"

• The subtitles for the creepy squirrels were not translated.
• Any scene with Gumball naked was zoomed into his face.

"The Sock"

• Again, the 'jumping out the window' scenes were missing, assuming the teachers just ran off.

• When Mrs. Robinson caught the boys puppeting Mr. Robinson, the line "Wanna make out?" was cut.

"The Mustache"

• During Gumball's manly transformation, his growing butt was not shown.
• The scene where Richard examined himself in front of the mirror was cut.
• The breaking window scene was missing, assuming the laptop which Richard threw is just outside.
• Part of the song "Because We're Men" talking about having kids was removed.

"The Date"

• Gumball saying "What the...?" about Richard getting his clothes from the dump was cut.
• The scene where Richard used the money as a tissue was cut.
• While Gumball fights Mr. Cuddles, Gumball falling out of the window is cut.

"The Car"

• Mr. Robinson saying "What the...?" to Gumball and Darwin who finished trimming the lawn was cut.
• Richard getting shocked by the Electro Fat was cut.
• Again, the breaking window scene because of the Electro Fat being thrown there was cut.

• This one is also notable and the longest single censor cut. Anais' advice on Gumball's bad luck is wholly cut, making the scene extremely confusing.
• The scene where [Darwin explains the answer to Anais is slightly zoomed so that Gumball in dust is not shown.
• Gumball's line while covered in dust was cut.
• The football pole falling on Gumball from afar was cut.

"The Microwave"

• Anais saying "What the...?" when Kenneth is about to eat her was cut.

"The Meddler"

• When Gumball lifts up the skirt and shows his butt with Nicole, an edit was made with his butt pixelated.
• The close up of Gumball's butt during his cheerleading performance was cut.

"The Fight"

• Gumball saying "What the...?" after Anais said "Face to fist." was cut, making it sound as if he only says "WHAT?!"
• Darwin hitting Gumball while wearing the made-up armor multiple times was shortened to two times.

• Granny Jojo and Louie's first kissing scene was cut short.
• Gumball's dialogue "A man doesn't need to wash his pants to really stand up by themselves. A man scratches whatever part of his body he likes in public, and shows no shame!
